The COMET-ORB invites you to a mini-seminar on Virtual Reality for Trajectory Design. It will take place on March 6, 2024, from 16:00 to 17:00.
The presentation will be given by Prof. Davide Guzzetti from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Auburn University. The abstract of his presentation is given below. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Abstract

Spacecraft orbital motion is inherently spatial, a dimension often elusive in conventional trajectory design processes tailored for flat-screen interactions. Moreover, orbits within gravitational multibody regimes lack a compact coordinate set, like Keplerian orbital elements, that also serves as an effective and intuitive geometrical description, conducive to visualizing orbit properties and designing space flight solutions. Introducing a spatial dimension into a human-process interface unlocks unique affordances, from augmented degrees of freedom like full-body movements and a broader field of regard to stereoscopic perception. These affordances set the stage for new trajectory design modalities in dynamical regimes where a unified analytical representation of the orbit solution space is absent. In this presentation, we will discuss various virtual reality frameworks for constructing initial trajectory guesses and analyzing astrodynamics data within gravitational multibody regimes.
